"What's your favorite German word?"
The answer to that question is given by German language students. Watch this video to find out what they said.

Cosiness.
And why is coziness your favorite word?
It... because it's my favorite feeling.
Cozy is a special word in German.
And there are similar words in the Netherlands, in Denmark, in the Scandinavian countries...
These words describe a feeling, and it's not entirely translatable.
If something is cozy, then an environment is particularly friendly, particularly warm, and it's not just the physical environment that contributes to that, my home can be cozy, but most of the time it's also the social atmosphere.
I feel comfortable with my family or with my friends.
What is your favorite word?
So my favorite word is dog-tired.
Dog-tired.
Why is that your favorite word?
Because this word is very descriptive for me.

And it's very graphic.
It literally describes how you feel.
Why dog?
Why is there a dog in there?
Don't know, but very cute I think.
I would say butterfly because whenever an American asks me, "Oh, what's your favorite word in German?"
I also say that because it's always so funny to think because butterfly is a very harsh word, but actually German is a pretty beautiful language.
And you don't really see that on the internet.
But yeah, that's my favorite word.
It depends on how you stress the word.
There are so many jokes on the internet where Germans just say "butterfly" and it sounds very harsh, but you can also just say "butterfly" and it's a beautiful word.

And it's impossible to pronounce, but you say it perfectly.

I also like all compound words, for example, "Faultier" because they are quite logical and that's the beauty of the German language, in my opinion.

Yes, even if they're a bit difficult to pronounce, but...
That's correct.
Squirrel is such a word that English native speakers find it difficult to pronounce.
And the English word is impossible for Germans to pronounce.
I can't tell either.

Yes, my favorite word is a cat because cat or cat or koshka is always my favorite word in all languages.

I love cats, they are wonderful.
I love the lizards too, but cats always come first in my heart.

I think my favorite word is life artist.
Oh wow, that's a super awesome word.
Yes.
Why is that your favorite word?
I think because it motivates me a bit not to be so pessimistic all the time.
So, I always think people who can make something out of every situation are my motivation, because for me it's always, "Ah, everything's going to go wrong" and... "Ah, it's the end of the world," I say I like to be inspired by people who simply make the best of every situation.
What does that mean, life artist?
People like this are people who, even if there are problems, who always find a solution, and always come to terms with themselves and somehow make the best of everything and are optimistic and yes, always think I'll find a solution it will work out somehow.
So they make art out of life.

Und warum ist cosiness dein Lieblingswort?
Es... weil es meiner Lieblingsgefühl ist.
Gemütlich ist ein besonderes Wort auf Deutsch.
Und es gibt ähnliche Wörter in den Niederlanden, in Dänemark, in den skandinavischen Ländern...
Diese Worte beschreiben ein Gefühl, und das ist nicht ganz übersetzbar.
Wenn etwas gemütlich ist, dann ist eine Umgebung besonders freundlich, besonders warm und dazu trägt nicht nur die physische Umgebung bei, meine Wohnung kann gemütlich sein, aber meistens ist es auch die soziale Atmosphäre.
Ich fühle mich gemütlich in meiner Familie oder bei meinen Freunden.
Was ist dein Lieblingswort?
So meine Lieblingswort ist hundemüde.

Warum ist das dein Lieblingswort?
Weil diese Wort sehr beschreibend für mich ist.

Und er ist sehr grafik.
Es beschreibt wortwörtlich wie du dich fühlst.
Warum Hund?
Warum ist ein Hund da drin?
Weiß es nicht, aber sehr süß, ich finde.
Ich würde sagen Butterfly weil, wenn immer ein Amerikaner mir fragt, "Oh, was ist dein Lieblingswort auf Deutsch?"
Das sage ich auch, weil sie denken immer so lustig ist, weil Butterfly ein sehr harsche Wort ist, aber eigentlich ist Deutsch eine ziemlich schöne Sprache.
Und man sieht das nicht wirklich auf der Internet.
Aber ja, das ist mein Lieblingswort.
Es hängt davon ab, wie man das Wort betont.
Es gibt so viele Witze im Internet, wo Deutsche einfach Butterfly sagen und dann klingt das sehr harsch, aber man kann auch einfach Butterfly sagen und dann ist es ein wunderschönes Wort.

Warum ist das dein Lieblingswort?
Ich denke, weil es mich so ein bisschen motiviert, nicht immer so pessimistisch zu sein.
So, ich denke immer Leute, die aus allen Situationen irgendwas machen können, sind so meine Motivation, weil für mich ist es immer "Ah, alles wird schiefgehen" und... "Ah, es ist das Ende der Welt", so ich lass mich gern inspirieren von Leuten, die, die einfach aus jeder Situation das Beste machen.
Was heisst das, Lebenskünstler?
So Lebenskünstler sind Leute, die auch, wenn es mal Probleme gibt, die einfach immer eine Lösung finden, und sich immer arrangieren und aus allem irgendwie das Beste machen und optimistisch sind und ja, immer denken, ich finde eine lösung es wird irgendwie klappen.
Also sie machen aus dem Leben eine Kunst.
